It is the Veteran, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Veteran, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Veteran, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Veteran, not the protester, who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the Veteran, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Veteran, not the politician, who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Veteran who salutes the Flag, supports his Flag, and upon his passing, with the echoing of Taps, completes his Service to his Country under the Flag.

Preamble of The American Legion

For God and Country we associate ourselves together for the following purposes:
To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America;x To maintain Law and Order;xx To foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism;x To preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the Great Wars;x To inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the Community, State and Nation;X To combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses;X To make right the Master of Might;x To promote Peace and Goodwill on earth;x To safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of Justice, Freedom & Democracy;x To consecrate & sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.
