First, the editor would suggest you review the posting here of Friday, December 23rd, that describes the Bonus Payment that Veterans can receive from the State of Illinois and who is eligible. However, a quick summary is that a $100 payment can be received by any Veteran who lived in Illinois for a year immediately prior to entering the service, then either received a Honorable Discharge or is still on active duty, and served "in country" per the medal requirement listed. That applies to Korean era, Vietnam era, Persian Gulf era, and Global War on Terrorism. For World War II Veterans, they can receive $10 per month for domestic service or $15 per month for foreign country service, thus up to a maximum of $900 if they served from September 1940 thru 1945 overseas, or up to $600 even if in the States. Definitely worth filling out the form and investing in a stamp to mail.
Second, the reason for this recap, is that the forms and benefit booklet mentioned in the previous posting is now available in our Post's Digital Library. Just click on the icon in the right column and then you will note the forms are listed in the bottom right of the page. Then click on the form and print it out, or you can right click and download if you wish. The Veteran Compensation Bonus Form is the one for Veterans out of the service and the Active-Duty one is obviously for those still serving. That is all there is to it.
