A SOLDIER'S NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

This poem presents an imagined encounter with a U.S. serviceman and is often credited to Lt Cmdr Jeff Giles SC, USN, as it is here, but the International War Veterans' Poetry Archive lists this poem as copyrighted on December 7, 2000, (Pearl Harbor Day) by Michael Marks. His author's note reads: "In loving appreciation of the countless Americans who have, and continue to service in the Armed Forces, and those who gave their life for their country. Your sacrifices will never be forgotten. We look forward to the day you come home."
